smh when are people going to stop with the nazi bullshit about pope benedict? ya he’s a pretty disgusting person but as a young teenager in nazi germany, membership in the hitler youth was required BY LAW. meaning there was really no way he could opt out, not even because he was studying seminary. he rarely attended meetings thanks to a sympathetic teacher, his father was anti-nazi because it conflicted with their faith and his mentally handicapped cousin was murdered in the euthanasia program. he attended meetings only so his tuition to the seminary would be paid, and avoided attending whenever possible.

there are a lot of negative things you could say about the pope, but the nazi sympathiser bs is NOT one of them
