Rihanna was in North London to perform at the O2 this week when she met Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe backstage.

She said to Defoe: “Oh, Jermain, you play for Arsenal, yeah? I’ve heard all about you. 

Apparently there was an awkward silence, then Spurs keeper Brad Friedel and the rest of Defoe’s group burst into laughter.

But the 23-year-old singer played it as a joke.

She added: “Haha. Gotcha. Only joking. You’d look great in red though.”
